Afroahjo's dance and drumworkshop in Guinea 15.12.2012-9.1.2

Some places left in Wonuwali/Afroahjo´s dance and drum workshop in Guinea 15.Dec.2012-9.Jan.2013, you are most welcome to join us!

We have only a small group of students so everybody will get the most out of classes.
Our teachers are the very best: great younger generation drummers like ”Petit” Mamady Keita and Mamadouba Mansare and soloists of the national ballets (Marie ”Domany” Bangoura from Les Ballets Africains and Mariama Cire Diaby from National Ballet Djoliba as wll as visitors like and Khalil Toure). All of our teachers have a lot of experience in teaching and have been with us in our previous workshops. This is our 12th workshop, so we are already quite experienced organisers.

Classes are 5 days/week, about 5,5 hrs daily (both dance and drum, or just dance or drum if you want) or some times 3 days classes/ 1 day off, depending on the program and trips. We´ll divide drumlessons in two groups, if needed. You can also take extra classes with great teachers in other instruments: balafon, kora, gongoma etc. Just let us know and we try to arrange it for you!

We also take you to lots of excursions and trips:
Traditional celebrations and ceremonies (very important for us, as this is the one thing you cannot see elsewhere!), concerts, ballet rehearsals, other villages and cities, beaches, marketplaces, the beautiful nature... and organise our own parties and have great groups perform for us at home.

You will stay at N´Fanly Camara´s house in Bentouraya (about 45 km from Conakry and 25km from the airport). The rooms are very simple but nice with mattresses and mosquito nets, and the food is delicious, breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared by N´Fanlys sisters. Bottled mineral water is also included. You will see everyday life and get to be part of it. (Learn to cook, speak susu, go fishing, recognise all the birds, you name it!)

The price of the workshop is 1180€ which includes almost everything: classes, acommodation, good breakfast and two meals a day, mineral water, transport to and from the airport and all the trips in the program. You´ll have to arrange the flights and visa yourself (we´ll help with the visa). Check the vaccinations and malaria medication with your doctor (we´ll send you a list also).

Who are we?
N´Fanly Camara is a guinean dancer/musician who got his training with the National Ballet Djoliba. He left Guinea for Abijan and Dakar (to dance with the ballets) and finally to Gambia where he had his own ballet for 7 years. He then got invited to Germany and France to play with some jazz groups and dance and choreographe for different ballets. He stayed in France for 12 years performing there and touring all over the world with different ballets and internationally known artists Ballet Bougarabou, Kakande, Mory Kante, Salif Keita). In1995 he moved to Finland and continues teaching and performing with his group Wonuwali and in different theatre productions.
Outi Kallinen is a dancer, choreographer and musician who has been travelling regularly to Guinea and Senegal since 1989 to learn traditional music and dance. Outi has choreographed over ten dance teatre productions, has performed with numerous dance, theatre and musical groups and is a well known dance teacher. In 2012 she got a five-year Artist Grant from Arts Council of Finland and is also the chairperson of Union of Finnish Dance Artists.
They have also a dance and music school Afroahjo (www.afroahjo.fi, in Finnish only)

Long story short: e-mail us for more information and have a trip of a lifetime with wonderful guinean and finnish people!
