NDAKAROU! Internationell sabar workshop med Pape Moussa & vänner 5.-16.1.2015 I april fick vi en chans att dansa med Pape Moussa Sonko i Stockholm. Nu inbjuder den senegalesiske sabarstjärnan oss till en intensiv dansworkshop på två veckor i Dakar, Senegal. Pape Moussa är en exceptionell dansare och dessutom en engagerad och inspirerande lärare. Det är väldigt sällan han ger workshop, så missa inte detta!! Sabar är en rolig och utmanande traditionell dansstil från woloffolket i Senegal. Sabar skiljer sig mycket från andra västafrikanska dansstilar både i uttryck och rytm. Det är en intressant mix av gammalt och nytt - traditionella rörelser går hand i hand med nya danser och steg som kommer upp varje år. Det blir 3 timmar dans 5 dagar i veckan. Klasserna är öppen nivå men riktar sig till dig som har tidigare erfarenhet i sabar. I slutet av de 2 veckorna kommer det organiseras en taneber, en stor sabar evenemang ute på gatan. A 2-week international workshop in the Senegalese capital with the one and only Pape Moussa Sonko and his crew! Pape Moussa, elected best dancer in Senegal in 2011, is a renowned artist and choreographer and has been performing with Senegal´s most famous singers (Youssou Ndour, Viviane Ndour and Aida Samb among others). Last winter he was collaborating in Afrika! Afrika!, a big dance production touring all over Europe. Pape Moussa is a hugely entertaining and inspiring teacher with a vast knowledge of Sabar. He wants his students to feel at ease and enjoy themselves. Unfortunately due to his busy schedule he’s not able to give that many workshops a year. As a teacher he’s best known for his incredibly hard working and motivated Japanese students that travel to Senegal every year to learn with their master. Just take a look at Tangana tour´s videos to witness their amazing talent and energy! There will be 3 hours of dancing 5 days a week. The classes will be held in a dance studio and accompanied by drummers from Pape Moussa’s troupe. The classes will be held mainly by Pape Moussa with a few selected guest teachers for a greater variety in style. One of the rare treats during this workshop will be a Sabar conference with the great Oumi Séne, a famous dancer and a former star of the National Ballet of Sorano. She will help us understand the significance and history of Sabar on a deeper level. In addition to traditional Sabar we will be having a few Mbalax classes. Pape Moussa is a frequent star in Senegalese music videos, and we will get a chance to try out some of these choreographies with the master himself! It will also be possible to take drumming classes or private dance classes for extra fee. All classes are open level but it is recommended you have previous experience in Sabar. At the very end of the 2 weeks you’ll be able to showcase all the new stuff you’ve learned during the workshop at our very own Taneber, a big Sabar gathering out on the street. It will be an event you won’t soon forget… The whole package will include 30hours of dance classes, meals, accommodation, and the Taneber. It is also possible to just participate in the dance classes. January is a great period to travel to Dakar – there weather won’t be too hot and you´ll get a chance to enjoy numerous Sabar related events, tanebers, soirée sénégalaises and concerts!
